In Tokyo, a young prostitute develops an unexpected connection with a widower over a period of two days.

Like Someone in Love (Japanese: ライク・サムワン・イン・ラブ Raiku Samuwan In Rabu) is a Japanese-language drama film written and directed by Iranian director Abbas Kiarostami, starring Rin Takanashi, Tadashi Okuno and Ryō Kase. The film French-Japanese production competed for the Palme d''Or at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival.

In Tokyo, sociology student Akiko (Rin Takanashi) moonlights as a high-end prostitute. Her jealous boyfriend, Noriaki (Ryō Kase) is suspicious, but does not know about her work as a prostitute. One night, she is assigned to Takashi (Tadashi Okuno), an elderly former university professor who is more interested in making her dinner than having sex.
The morning after they spend the night together, he drives her to to take a test at school. While waiting in the car for her, he encounters Noriaki who assumes that he is her grandfather and asks his permission to marry her. Takashi lets him believe this and advises him not to propose to Akiko.

She returns from her test to find Takashi and Noriaki still talking in the car. The three of them ride together toward a bookstore and while en route Noriaki, who owns a garage, diagnoses a problem with the car. He convinces Takashi to drive it to his garage where he replaces a fan belt—all the while not realizing that Takashi was Akiko''s client. At the garage, they encounter a former student of Takashi and Akiko is concerned he will reveal the truth about Takashi and her.

Takashi drops Akiko at the bookstore and returns home. Soon afterward, he receives a panicked phone call from Akiko and returns to the bookstore to pick her up. Her mouth is bloodied, apparently from an attack by Noriaki, although she does not provide any details. Takashi and Akiko are not home for long when Noriaki arrives, threatening them over the apartment intercom and banging on the door. She cowers on the couch. Takashi peers out his window to see what Noriaki is doing. In the film''s final shot, a stone or brick comes through the window and Takashi falls to the floor, although it''s unclear whether he was struck by it.

A simple masterpiece
Author: mkian
I watched this movie on silver screen twice up to now and I''m sure I can check it out ten more times and still enjoy it. It''s definitely a minimal piece of art but it''s as deep as life. It looks simple but it doesn''t mean you can''t elaborate. Kiarostami highlights lifelike stories. Stories which belong to us, ordinary people! Aren''t they important? And Kiarostami doesn''t conceal this fact that he likes Haiku and Japanese culture but he doesn''t have any idea how this feelings came up to him. He started writing poems that resembled Haiku when he was just 20! The serene, nonchalant, and often profoundly philosophical language of haiku allows the poet to swiftly touch on the core of the universal human condition: love, despair, humor, death; as his movies do and now Kiarostami made his last movie (and one of the best ones) where Haiku was blossomed: Japan. All these said, I can''t ignore the innovative cinematographic techniques he used in "Like Someone in Love" that adds to the beauty of this movie. Remember the first scene in the bar with Camera fixed on a table, the girl is talking in behind while we see other people activities. We don''t know what we should track. The other scenes in the car which camera plays with lights and shadows are just magnificent. I''m really amazed how delicately he sets up these all. Every detail is deliberated. Briefly, if you are bored of the stupid stories we see in the movies nowadays and instead want to know what''s behind go and check this out.
